1920’s Inspired Wedding

Thinking about planning a 1920’s inspired wedding?  Thanks to award winning movies and television drama’s, such a Midnight in Paris, Boardwalk Empire, and the upcoming 2013 release of The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio, the roaring 20’s are influencing and inspiring the Bridal Industry.  Here are some wonderful ways to incorporate this classically chic era into your wedding day!

GOWNS:

Catherine Deane offers a beautiful selection of gowns with stunning lace, bead-work, and sleek silhouettes reminiscent of the 1920’s era with a modern approach.  Naeem Khan’s Resort 2013 Collection includes some art-deco stunners that are a must see, while Jenny Packman hits it out of the park with her 2013 Bridal Collection.  As always, BHLDN‘s gorgeous gowns exude 1920’s flair.

HEAD PIECES:

Your 1920’s look cannot be complete without the accent of a fabulous
headpiece. Johanna Johnson, a remarkable designer from Australia, has an exquisite collection which can be shipped to both the United States & Canada. True to form, Jenny Packman compliments her 2013 Bridal Collection with incredibly artistic head pieces covered in crystals!  Etsy also has a wide selection of options offered at various price points.

DRINKS:

In 1919, the 18Th amendment was passed which made the sale of alcohol illegal in the United States.  As a result, alcohol was smuggled in via Canada and the Caribbean.  The “Noble Experiment” as it was called, led to barkeeps crafting creative cocktails to mask the strong taste of the alcohols that were available.  Many used sweeteners and fruit juices to improve the taste of the drinks.

Some popular alcohols that were served during Prohibition included Rum, Gin, & Whiskey.  Check out the slide-show below which features cocktails that have stood the test of time and would be perfect for your 1920’s inspired wedding!

DECOR:

Think Art Deco!  The style is often characterized by rich colors, geometric shapes and rich ornamentation.  You can weave these details into the invites, favors, and even the cake!

Have fun with this theme – the possibilities are endless.  Some additional things you can incorporate are:

  • Cigar Bars
  • PhotoBooth with 1920’s props – California Brides be sure to check out Mobile Photo Booth
  • Vintage Furniture:  Southern California Brides be sure to check out: Archive Rentals for wonderful pieces available for rent
  • Jazz Bands
  • Ask your guests to dress in 1920’s attire to complete the theme
  • Turn the bar into a speakeasy where a “password” is required to get in (this could be included in the invites)

Enjoy the photos below showcasing all of the above!  Happy Planning! xo
